Lucas Bergvall would rather join Nottingham Forest than Newcastle United this summer.
The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has attracted interest from both clubs, with Forest searching for an Elliot Anderson replacement, while Newcastle lost Sandro Tonali to Spurs earlier in the transfer window.
Even though Spurs have signed both Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, coach Harry Brooks has expressed surprise about the willingness to sanction Bergvall’s departure, saying: “An incredible technician. Never ever fights the ball. So silky. Yet also dynamic, positive, competes, has vision, comfortable any area of the pitch, skilful, superb athlete, has such a wide range of ball strikes over different distances, amazing problem solver (he puts himself in those problems at times and that’s what needs work).”
However, following two high-profile arrivals, the 20-year-old may struggle to receive consistent game time next season, especially considering he featured for just 967 minutes during the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

The youngster, who has been valued at £50m, is also yet to establish himself as one of Sweden’s key players, with two of his four World Cup appearances coming as a substitute.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold has made it clear Bergvall would prefer to move to the City Ground, should he have the option to join either Nottingham Forest or Newcastle this summer.
Gold said: “Forest is his preference because he would get more game time there, but I’m sure he would also jump at the chance to play for Newcastle.”

It will be of paramount importance that Forest sign a worthy replacement for Anderson, following his departure to Manchester City earlier in the window. The 23-year-old played a pivotal role in the Tricky Trees avoiding the drop, featuring in all 38 games, during which time he picked up four goals and four assists. Nikola Milenkovic was the only outfield player to feature for more minutes than Anderson, so Oliver Glasner will need to sign another reliable midfielder this summer. |

Newcastle, on the other hand need to strengthen their options in the middle of the park, following Tonali’s move to Tottenham. Worryingly, captain Bruno Guimaraes could follow the Italian out the exit door, with Arsenal refusing to give up in their pursuit of the Brazilian, and they are now preparing a new bid. There have also been widespread suggestions that Joelinton could depart too, exacerbating the need to sign a new midfielder. |
Eddie Howe is also keen to strengthen his defence this summer, and he has set his sights on Forest defender Neco Williams, who has been in talks regarding a contract extension to remain at the City Ground.
