Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day Top247 receiver Derrell Hines Jr. is a name to know, Notre Dame fans. The 6-1, 170-pound pass catcher from the class of 2028 is a tremendous talent. 247Sports lists him as the No. 109 overall player in the nation, No. 15 receiver overall, and No. 14 player in the always loaded Sunshine State. As a sophomore, Hines totaled 27 catches for 534 yards and three touchdowns. He was terrific at The Opening regional in his home state this offseason and punched his ticket to The Opening Finals in Beaverton, Ore., to wrap up the summer.
Hines has racked up 40 offers from many of the nation’s top programs. If you think of the school, they have already offered. Simple as that. Back on March 24, Notre Dame entered the race and extended an offer. The Fighting Irish made it clear then that he was going to be a top priority moving forward.
So, where do things stand with Notre Dame and Hines? Do the Irish have a legitimate shot of plucking an elite talent like Hines from the state of Florida?
