After being regarded as the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2028, Sears announced he would be fast-tracking his high school career and joining the 2027 class earlier this week.
Sears was a first team MaxPreps Sophomore All-American last season at West Broward (Pembroke Pines) when he posted 61 tackles and three interceptions for Class 6A state runner-up. On the offensive side of the ball, he added 42 receptions for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The South Florida product made his announcement on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel Friday, choosing the Hurricanes over Auburn, Florida, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Syracuse and Texas A&M.
Sears is the second highly-rated recruit to reclassify in a week. John Meredith announced his decision to jump to the Class of 2026 and forgo his senior season after losing an eligibility appeal earlier this month. The top-rated cornerback hoped to transfer to North Crowley (Fort Worth, Texas) but instead will enroll at Texas this fall.
