Rangers could sign £3.4m star to upgrade on Mikey Moore

Glasgow Rangers are in the market to bring in more quality in the wide areas for Derek McInnes before the summer transfer window slams shut next month.

After Ryan Naderi started on the right flank against Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership opener, it is clear that the Gers need to add more options on the wings.

Well, that process has already started, it would seem, with Fabrizio Romano outlining that a verbal agreement has been reached to sign Japanese wideman Daisuke Yokota from Hannover.

The Scottish giants previously had Mikey Moore on loan from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the 2025/26 campaign, but he left at the end of the season.

It was reported last month that Moore would be open to a return to Ibrox and that the club would like to bring him back to Glasgow for a second spell. That now appears unlikely, highlighting the need for further reinforcements even after Yokota’s impending arrival.

Why Mikey Moore is unlikely to return to Rangers

It was always going to be a tall order for the Gers to bring Moore back to the club this summer after he had already spent one season in the Premiership, as Spurs may want him to try a new experience and to play at a higher level.

The 18-year-old talent enjoyed a strong first season of regular first-team football with the Light Blues, as he racked up 14 goals and ‘big chances’ created combined.

A return to Rangers, though, would delay his journey towards playing in one of Europe’s major leagues, which may be why he is now being touted for a move to Bundesliga outfit Koln.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Koln have made an offer to sign the England youth international on loan, and a move to the German side would provide him with an opportunity to play week-in-week-out in a major league.

Rangers, unfortunately, do not have that to offer to the player so that he can take the next step in his development, which is why it currently looks unlikely that he will be returning to Ibrox any time soon.

Rangers eyeing star who’s even better than Moore

The Premiership giants will have to turn their attention elsewhere, and they have seemingly already snapped up a deal for the aforementioned Yokota, the 26-year-old set to join for a fee of around £3m.

Peuple Vert reports that Glasgow Rangers are also one of the teams interested in a deal to sign Lechia Gdansk forward Camilo Mena before the end of the summer transfer window.

The 49ers are monitoring his situation with the Polish side ahead of a potential swoop for his services, whilst they face competition from Palmeiras and Saint-Étienne.

It adds that the 23-year-old talent is currently valued at around £3.4m by his current club, a similar fee to Yokota, and it remains to be seen whether or not any of the three interested parties are prepared to pay that price tag.

McInnes should now push the board to enter talks with the Polish side because Mena could be a fantastic addition to this attacking arsenal for the 2026/27 campaign.

Like Moore, the Colombian whiz is a versatile attacker who can play on the right, off the left, or in the number ten position, although the right wing is his favoured role.

His performances in the 2025/26 campaign for Lechia Gdansk suggest that he has even more to offer to the team at the top end of the pitch than Moore did in the Premiership.

Whilst he may not be as prolific as the Englishman, Mena seems to be on another level to the Spurs youngster when it comes to dribbling past opponents and creating high-quality chances for his teammates.

The £3.4m-rated star produced three more goal contributions and created five more ‘big chances’ for his side at league level, whilst playing two fewer matches than the teenager.

Mena’s form in the Polish top-flight is also not a flash in the pan. He scored nine goals, created 22 ‘big chances’, and supplied 16 assists in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 campaigns combined.

He has delivered consistent quality, particularly as a creator, at the top end of the pitch in each of the last three seasons in the Ekstraklasa, which suggests that the young forward would be an exciting addition to the Rangers squad.

Mena appears to be more productive than Moore in the here and now and has more experience under his belt to suggest that it is sustainable, whilst the English attacker has only played one full season of senior football.

The Gers must now swoop for the versatile Colombian winger to improve their team and forget about Moore between now and the end of the window.
