MIAMI, Fla. – The scene outside the final preseason tune-up for five-star Miami commit A’Mir Sears was every bit captivating.
As one pulled into the parking lot of Miami Columbus they were greeted by a near 50-foot banner celebrating Cameron Boozer‘s Naismith Trophy. Inside the lively tailgates, multiple fans were spotted wearing Fernando Mendoza‘s new Oakland Raiders jersey.
To a sports-crazed outsider, it felt a bit surreal walking the grounds of the only traditional high school in the world to produce a first round pick in both the NBA and NFL drafts this year. But for Sears this is his new reality.
After a breakthrough 2025 campaign at West Broward in which he became a must-get recruit for College Football Playoff contenders, Sears has relocated an hour south to Miami Columbus.
The goal?
To become the next superstar out of the all-boys Catholic school and Thursday’s performance would suggest that he’s on track.
In a weather-shortened exhibition win against Miramar, the quick-twitched Sears played a total of 42 snaps: 25 on defense and 17 on offense while splitting time at cornerback, safety and wide receiver. He finished the night with three tackles, two sacks and an 18-yard touchdown catch.
