UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov has admitted he gets ready for the gym the same way he would before going to someone’s wedding.
While Nurmagomedov retired in 2021, he still loves to train regularly with his teammates, including Islam Makhachev, Umar Nurmagomedov, Usman Nurmagomedov, and many others.
Earlier this week, during an interview with Anatomy of a Fighter, “The Eagle” explained why every fighter should practice good personal hygiene before going to the gym. According to Nurmagomedov, he personally loves to be well-groomed before training. He washes his body, brushes his teeth, and looks and smells good, believing that if he stinks, no one would want to spar with him.
“When I go to the gym, I always cut my nails, wash my whole body, brush my teeth, wear a good T-shirt, and put cologne on my shirt. When I go to the gym, it’s like I’m going to someone’s wedding because you have to think about your sparring partners too. This is very important. When you go there smelling bad, who’s going to spar with you? Who’s gonna wrestle with you?”

Khabib Nurmagomedov says he is in his prime now
After being away from active competition for more than half a decade, Khabib Nurmagomedov recently claimed he’s now in his prime in his wrestling and grappling skills, and even his training partners, who trained with him when he was an active UFC fighter and the same guys who train with him even now, claim the exact thing. “The Eagle” said on Smol Talk:
“People think my prime was between 2018 and 2020, but I wasn’t in my prime back then. I turned 32 in September 2020, and I retired in October. So I hadn’t even really begun yet. My grappling has improved tremendously since then. In 2026, it’s much better than it was in 2020… My grappling is far better now. And the guys who trained with me in both 2020 and 2026 say the same thing.”
