In the spring, Derrick Coleman Jr. was seeing his recruitment reach a new level. Now, as the summer winds down, he’s narrowing his focus prior to the fall.

The four-star 2028 defensive back out of Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra has released a list of his top-nine schools to this point in his recruitment. Making the cut: USC, UCLA, Oregon, Miami, Arizona State, Arizona, Washington, North Carolina and Cal.

A notable step as Coleman enters his junior season.

“It’s been a blessing, really,” Coleman said. “That’s what I want to say, first and foremost. Just staying consistent with the schools that’ve been consistent with me, is really, I feel like I’m preparing for college and getting prepared for the next level. I feel like narrowing down to the nine schools that show the most interest me, that’s me appreciating their value now and for the next level.”

This isn’t the only move Coleman is making. He’s scheduled several game visits with programs in contention.
