Miami earned its highest preseason ranking under Mario Cristobal as the Hurricanes enter their fifth season under their head coach. The Hurricanes finished with a program-record 13 wins with two losses, finishing as the runner-up in the College Football Playoff. 

Miami is ranked seventh in the Associated Press Top 25 and the AFCA Coaches Poll. The Hurricanes received 1,379 points in the AP Top 25 and 1,409 in the AFCA Coaches Poll. Indiana, which beat Miami in the CFP Championship Game, is sixth in the AP Top 25 and AFCA Coaches Polls. 

Indiana received 1,440 points in the AP Top 25 and 1,522 in the AFCA Coaches Poll. Texas A&M, which Miami beat in the first round of the CFP in College Station, is eighth in both preseason polls. The Aggies received 1,131 points in the AP Top 25 and 1.174 points in the AFCA Coaches Poll.

The previous highest preseason ranking for Miami under Cristobal was 16th in 2022 in his inaugural season. Miami finished the 2022 season with five wins and seven losses. The Hurricanes were not ranked during the 2023 preseason. Miami began 2023 with four consecutive wins, earning a ranking for four weeks.

Miami began the 2024 season ranked 19th in the AP Top 25 and was 10th entering 2025. The Hurricanes finished the 2024 regular season with 10 wins and three losses. Miami finished the 2025 regular season with 10 wins, two losses and was the 10th seed in the CFP.
