Aston Villa are very interested in signing Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries, with the defender set to be available for a relatively low fee this summer.
Dumfries emerges as summer target for Aston Villa
Inter are desperate to keep hold of the Netherlands international, having recently offered him a salary increase in an effort to convince him to extend his stay at the San Siro beyond the summer of 2028.
The Serie A heavyweights are trying everything to keep hold of the defender, according to a report from Italy (via Sport Witness), but Aston Villa are now very interested in a summer deal, at which point he will be available for just €25m (£22m) due to a release clause.
The Inter star could be an ideal signing for Villa, given that he is very experienced in the Champions League, being lauded as “colossal” by commentator Adam Summerton for his performance in the second leg of the semi-final victory against Barcelona last season.
Dumfries has five goals and five assists to his name in 47 appearances in the Champions League, and it is looking increasingly likely Villa will be involved in the competition next season.

He’s a man in demand…
Five Champions League spots are up for grabs in the Premier League this season, and Unai Emery‘s side moved ten points clear of sixth-place Chelsea with a late 4-3 victory against Sunderland on Sunday.
Dumfries finished above Erling Haaland in Ballon d’Or
With Inter making it to the 2025 Champions League final, in which they came up short in a 5-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain, Dumfries was nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, ultimately finishing in 25th place.
PSG’s Ousmane Dembele won the award for the first time, after playing a major role in the French side going all the way in the Champions League, although he was unable to score against Villa over two legs in the quarter-final.
With Manchester City going trophyless, Dumfries ended up finishing above Erling Haaland in the rankings, which he was particularly proud of, saying: “It was special to experience the Ballon d’Or gala, being among all those world stars. It was an honour to be listed among the top 30 players in the world.
“I had a really good suit on, got a lot of compliments. And hey, I even finished a spot above [Erling] Haaland.”
Inter are on course to win the Serie A title this season, as they sit 12 points clear of AC Milan with just five games left to play, and the right-back has played a key role since returning from injury at the beginning of March.
The Dutchman bagged a brace in a 4-3 victory against Como just over a week ago, before going on to grab an assist in a 3-0 win against Cagliari, which put the Italian side on the brink of winning the league.
