It looked like a phenomenal piece of business on paper when Glasgow Rangers swooped to sign Bojan Miovski from Girona for an initial fee of £2.6m last summer.

The Light Blues needed to add another centre-forward to their squad as Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane were both in the process of moving on from Ibrox.

Bringing in a star who scored 32 goals in two seasons in the Scottish Premiership in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 campaigns with Aberdeen looked to be a superb signing for Russell Martin.

Miovski arrived in Glasgow as a proven Premiership scorer in the prime years of his career, at 26, and only cost an initial fee of less than £3m.

Unfortunately, though, this season has not gone to plan for the North Macedonia international, and it would not be a surprise to see him move on from the club this summer.

Why Rangers could sell Bojan Miovski this summer

The left-footed centre-forward has been far too inconsistent in front of goal for the Light Blues, as evidenced by his last two performances against Falkirk and Motherwell.

Miovski came off the bench to score two goals in a 6-3 win over Falkirk, but then he failed to register a single shot on target before being substituted at half-time against Motherwell.

The 26-year-old striker is an efficient finisher, having scored seven goals from 6.04 xG in the Premiership, but his all-round play has left far too much to be desired.

Miovski ranks poorly among his positional peers in most aspects of his performances, including his use of the ball as a passer and a dribbler, and his effectiveness in physical battles.

His struggles in general play explain why he has only started 14 of his 27 appearances in the league this season, with Danny Rohl preferring Youssef Chermiti ahead of him more often than not.

Now, with Ryan Naderi also at the club, Rangers could decide to cash in on Miovski, due to his poor performances, in order to free up space for another striker to come through the door.

The Premier League striker Rangers could sign to replace Bojan Miovski

The Scottish giants have already been linked with an interest in a Premier League striker whose arrival could allow them to cut ties with the former Aberdeen star this summer.

It was recently reported that Leeds United have given Joel Piroe the green light to secure a transfer away from Elland Road as soon as their Premier League status is secured, and that Rangers and Middlesbrough are set to compete for his signature.

Ally McCoist even recently claimed that “Joel Piroe would be a great signing for Rangers.” He added: “I think he could certainly do a job up here. I think he’d adapt to this football as well.”

The Suriname international’s record at Championship level for Swansea and Leeds United in four of the last five seasons certainly suggests that he would provide a big threat as a goalscorer to Ibrox.

He has not made an impact in the Premier League for the Whites, with no goals and only two starts this season, but that is because he has fallen behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin, an England international, in the pecking order.

The left-footed markman has proven that he can be a reliable goal threat in a team that dominates games regular, as he won the Championship Golden Boot with 19 goals when Leeds won the title with 100 points in the 2024/25 campaign.

Miovski, though, joined with an impressive goal record for an Aberdeen team who played on the counter, with a lot of space in behind defences for him to make runs off the last shoulder, which may be why he has not been as effective at Ibrox.

Piroe, though, is an old-fashioned poacher who can stay in and around the box and use his instincts and finishing ability to put teams who play in a low block to the sword, which is exactly what the Gers need to win a title.

Indeed, according to manager Daniel Farke, the £10m-rated forward is still the “best finisher” at Elland Road.

Therefore, the Light Blues should part ways with Miovski and bring the Leeds attacker in as his replacement, now that the Whites have given the green light for him to leave this summer.
