West Bromwich Albion want to sign Crystal Palace full-back Danny Imray on a permanent basis this summer, with James Morrison identifying him as one of his key targets.
Morrison eyeing new signings after landing permanent job
After guiding the Baggies to Championship safety, despite being handed a two-point deduction, Morrison was the natural choice for the permanent role of head coach, and he has now made it clear just how proud he is to land the job.
The 41-year-old said: “It’s fantastic, a huge honour and privilege. I’ve had a great response [from people]. It’s been unbelievable. I’d like to thank the board for giving me this fantastic opportunity. I’m really grateful and I’m going to give it 100% every day.”
“It’s got to be right for myself. Right for this football club. I’ll always put this football club first. And I believe I’m ready and the best man for the job. I’ve got a unique journey at this football club and this is the end of the line, and I want to prove to people that I can do it.”
However, a club the size of West Brom will have aspirations of competing much higher up the table, rather than simply surviving in the second tier, which means the new manager needs to get his recruitment right this summer.
Imray was a key player in the second half of the Championship season, starting the final 11 matches, and the Hawthorns outfit are now keen to secure his signature on a permanent basis in the summer.
That is according to reporter John Percy, who states “Imray is a top target for James Morrison”, having emerged as a vital player after arriving on loan from Crystal Palace in the January transfer window.
A deal may not be possible in the near future though, given the uncertainty surrounding who will be in the Palace dugout next season, with Oliver Glasner set to move on in the summer.
Not only has the right-back impressed in the second tier, but he was also lauded by Bromley director Anthony Serafino courtesy of a solid spell on loan in League Two.
Although he is a full-back by trade, the 22-year-old is also adept on the front foot, picking up a goal and an assist in West Brom’s important 3-0 victory against Watford at the Hawthorns last month, which earned him a SofaScore match rating of 9.3.
The Baggies may have flirted with relegation last season, but Imray certainly exhibited some promising signs during the second half of the season, and he could be a solid addition to Morrison’s squad.
