Manchester United are set to spend heavily to upgrade their midfield options this summer, with Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte both set to leave.
Man Utd tell Ugarte to leave the club this summer
While Casemiro confirmed his exit some time ago despite calls from fans to stay for one more year, Fabrizio Romano has revealed Ugarte has recently been told to find a new home.
Speaking on his personal Youtube channel, the reporter said: “Man United have been quite clear with the camp of the player, they want Ugarte to go.”
Romano says there is interest from Turkey and Italy in the Uruguayan, who has never quite settled at Old Trafford since joining from PSG in the summer of 2024.
The Red Devils could sign as many as three new players in midfield this summer, and are making progress in their move to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is admired and a move for Real Madrid man Aurelien Tchouameni is also among those considered, but it looks like Ederson could be the first signing of the Michael Carrick era.

The Red Devils are set to spend big in midfield this summer.
The Brazil international has been linked with Old Trafford for some time and talks are under way to bring in the 26-year-old from Atalanta.
Ederson was on an unused substitute in Friday’s 1-1 draw at Fiorentina, with head coach Raffaele Palladino saying afterwards that negotiations with a big club were happening.
Ederson rejecting other suitors to ‘wait’ for United
According to Romano, the tough tackling South American is so keen to join United he has recently rejected another club in order to ‘wait’ for an offer from INEOS.
“Ederson is on the market, Ederson wants to go to Man United, and what I understand and what I can tell you today Ederson is giving total priority to Man United.
“So despite another club, and it’s not Atletico Madrid, another club calling in recent days to ask about price tag, an opportunity together, Ederson wants to wait for Man United.”
Romano says Anderson is also a ‘top target’ for United, but Nottingham Forest could demand over £100m after staying up this season, and it is a similar case for Sandro Tonali, who is admired but is expected to be ‘very expensive’.
Carrick cannot wait to get started on his plans for next season, telling the press this week he will not be taking a break: “To be honest, no. I feel good.
“I think you get in the rhythm of working, really, of different ways, I’m sure you have different hours to what I do, some of you work more than others, I’m sure.
“You get used to it, you get into the flow of it. I’ve loved it. I’ve loved every minute of it, so I certainly don’t feel that I need a break.”
