Following Kieran McKenna’s shock departure, Ipswich Town have identified several potential candidates to lead their Premier League return, including a name with plenty of top-flight experience.
McKenna looked set to lead the Tractor Boys into the Premier League in an attempt to make it a second time lucky, having previously been relegated together.
As far as he was concerned, however, it was job done after taking the club back to England’s top tier and he’s now taken a break from management.
Better than O’Neil: Ashton plotting Ipswich move for “kamikaze” manager
Ipswich Town are reportedly considering a move to hire a manager who is even better than Gary O’Neil.
It has left Ipswich scrambling for options, with Gary O’Niell and Sandro Wagner among the early candidates to step into the technical era. The latter would be a particularly interesting choice, as he goes in search of a club to match his attacking philosophy.
However, whether those at Portman Road are willing to take a gamble on a manager who has taken charge of just one side for 14 games, which was Augsburg last season, remains to be seen.
Instead, they could focus their search on Premier League experience as they desperately hope to follow in the footsteps of Leeds United and Sunderland, rather than Burnley next season.

Ipswich offered chance to hire experienced Premier League manager
If the Tractor Boys are looking for experience, then they’ve just been handed a major boost. According to SportsBoom, Ipswich have now been offered the chance to hire Sean Dyche, who has put himself in the running to land the job in Suffolk.
The former Everton, Nottingham Forest and Burnley manager knows all about surviving in the top flight and is currently on 99 wins as a Premier League manager.
Whilst he’ll be the first to admit that he’s not the most exciting option, he is arguably the most reliable in a relegation scrap.

The 54-year-old is reportedly keen on a managerial return for the first time since taking his place as one of four Nottingham Forest managers last season – leaving Ipswich with plenty to consider.
As O’Neill, Wagner, Dyche and others all emerge on their radar, those at Portman Road must decide whether they want the exciting or the reliable in the Premier League next season.
