New Glasgow Rangers head coach Derek McInnes knows that he needs to add more quality to his options in the two wide positions in the summer transfer window.
Mikey Moore and Andreas Skov Olsen were both brought in on loan last season and have since returned to Tottenham Hotspur and Wolfsburg respectively, after Danny Rohl led the team to a third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.
The Light Blues are already looking at a Premiership star as a potential signing to bolster their attack, with reported interest in Motherwell forward Elijah Just.
Rangers are expected to ramp up their pursuit of the £3m-rated attacker, who could play in any of the three roles behind a striker, in the coming weeks.
The 26-year-old wide player scored seven goals and provided seven assists for Motherwell in the Premiership in his first season in Scottish football.
Rangers told how much they could sign international winger for
The club may have to move quickly if they want to strike a deal for the winger, though, because he scored two goals in the World Cup against Iran in his country’s first group stage match.
However, the club have also been linked with a move for a player who would be an even better signing than the New Zealand international in the coming weeks.
According to former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, Glasgow Rangers could see a bargain bid accepted to sign Vaclav Cerny from Besiktas in the summer transfer window.
It was recently reported that the Light Blues are considering a move to bring the Czechia international back to Ibrox, 12 months after Besiktas paid £6m to sign him from Wolfsburg after a year on loan at Ibrox.
Speaking to Football Insider, Wyness said: “I think they’ll get it done at about £5m, but I do think he’s exactly the type of player they need. He’s got the experience.
“McInnes will want that Premiership experience as well. He’s a quality player and played well for Rangers. There’ll probably be some add-ons, but I think they can get it done at £5m, and it’s a very good move if they can get Cerny in.”
Why Vaclav Cerny would be a better signing than Elijah Just
If the Scottish giants can get a deal done for £5m, the club should pursue a deal for Cerny ahead of signing Just from Motherwell in the summer window to bolster McInnes’ options on the right flank.
Just caught the eye with his performances for Motherwell with 14 goal contributions last season, but the pressure of playing at Ibrox is different because they are expected to win every match, and it remains to be seen how he will cope with that.
Cerny, meanwhile, has already been there and done it in a Rangers shirt because he played 52 times in all competitions on loan at the club from Wolfsburg in the 2024/25 campaign.

The Czechia international produced more combined goals and assists (16) in his Premiership season with Rangers than Just managed with Motherwell (14) in the campaign just gone.
These statistics suggest that the left-footed right-winger would carry a greater threat at the top end of the pitch, whilst also joining as a player who has already proven himself at Ibrox.
Cerny could hit the ground running in a second spell at the club because he already knows the expectations, the demands, and a lot of the players in the team, whilst Just could need time to adapt to his new surroundings and may not be as effective straight away.
On top of looking like a better option than Just because of his experience at Rangers and proven quality in the Premiership, the 28-year-old star also produced six goals and eight assists in all competitions for Besiktas in the 2025/26 campaign.
Just has never scored more than seven goals or provided more than seven assists at league level in a season in his career, whilst Cerny has hit double figures for goals in Scotland and recorded eight assists in the Turkish Super Lig.
Therefore, Rangers could be better off pursuing a deal to bring the Czechia forward back to the club instead of pushing ahead with a move for the Motherwell star.
