Texas has landed a commitment from Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage four-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence.

Lawrence, who announced his decision live on the CBS Sports College Football Youtube Channel, chose the Longhorns over other finalists like Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas A&M and Miami.

Several factors played a role in why Lawrence chose the Longhorns, but perhaps none bigger than head coach Steve Sarkisian’s track record of development at the quarterback position.

“The rich quarterback development history that they have with coach [Steve] Sarkisian and [quarterbacks] coach [AJ] Milwee,” Lawrence said. “They have a long list of guys they developed over the past couple of years at Alabama and Texas as well. Being a part of that group and knowing that I’m going to be developed by a staff to go to the next level is the ultimate goal.”

His two most recent visits to Austin, Texas is ultimately what sold the South Florida native on UT.

“It was the last two visits that I took: the one in the summer when I did the camp, and the one in the spring,” he said. “The visit in the spring put them in the lead, and the summer visit finalized everything.”

Lawrence has been on the recruiting scene since he was a middle schooler. After several years of being courted by schools, the time felt right for the 6-foot 1/2, 202-pounder to end his recruitment.

“I’ve been in this process for a long time, since my seventh-grade year,” he said. “I wanted to get ahead of my recruitment so I can recruit for my class. I feel like I am a strong resource in the class of 2028, and I will be able to recruit a lot of guys to the University of Texas.”

He will now work to recruit top players in the 2028 class to join him at Texas. He has some targets in mind.

“[Five-star wide receiver] Brysen Wright is a top receiver we are targeting,” he said. “There is another class of 2028 receiver down in Texas, Damarion Mays. There are also a lot of other guys from South Florida that I know would love to play with me. It will be a long list, and we are looking to build one of the top recruiting classes early on.”

247Sports ranks Lawrence as the No. 73 overall prospect, No. 6 quarterback and No. 11 player in Florida within the 2028 recruiting class.
