On paper, Everton‘s 13th placed finish in the Premier League last season was more mid-table mediocrity for a David Moyes team.

Yet, in their first year on the docks, they ended up just four points off securing a place in Europe. That certainly sounds a lot more positive, doesn’t it?

So, how can the Toffees get across the line and back into continental action? Well, they have a crop of homegrown players on their radar capable of taking them to the next level.

It feels as though the forward line should be the priority for Moyes and Co and fortunately, they are pressing ahead with moves of that nature.

Everton in talks to sign Premier League winger

Much of the early chatter to come out of the blue side of Mersyeside since the window opened has been dominated by the name of Hayden Hackney.

After Middlesbrough failed to achieve promotion, it is likely Hackney takes his leave and if reports are to be believed, he could join the Toffees. That’s what the player allegedly wants anyway.

However, up top is where the biggest additions could come. Chelsea’s Liam Delap continues to be linked with a move to Everton while Harry Wilson was also thought to be an option before he signed for Leeds United.

Wilson would have been a quality signing, particularly on a free transfer. Alas, Moyes’ men may just have to spend a bit to sign a likeminded player.

Indeed, according to Football Insider, Everton are now beginning to make their move to sign Jarrod Bowen from West Ham, a player Moyes knows all too well about. After all, it was Bowen’s winning goal that saw the now Everton boss lift the Conference League trophy when he was still in the east end of London.

The report notes that Everton have started club-to-club talks with the Hammers for the winger’s signature with it noted that he wants to stay in the Premier League.

With the Irons having suffered relegation, Bowen is widely expected to depart the London Stadium and could do so to the tune of £50m, according to other reports.

Why Jarrod Bowen could be Everton’s new IIliman Ndiaye

From an attacking point of view, it is safe to say that 2025/26 was a really inconsistent one for the Toffees.

Beto ended the season as the club’s top scorer with ten in all competitions but Thierno Barry only ended up bagging eight during his debut year in English football.

Everton striker Beto

When it came to consistency, there were only two men who could live up to that; Iliman Ndiaye and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Ndiaye, in particular, has fast become Everton’s talisman, scoring six goals and supplying three assists last term. That said, his overall performances deserved better than that. He was a constant livewire, a regular threat. Without him, they are a significantly poorer side.

This is why signing Bowen would help considerably. While the England international can play as an out-and-out striker, he is at his best on the flanks, much like Ndiaye.

Like Ndiaye, he’s also incredibly direct. He knows where the goal is and just generally is a huge threat to any defence he comes up against. After 11 goals and 12 assists last season, it was rather strange to see him left out of the England squad for the ongoing World Cup.

Bowen has been doing it a high level for a number of years now, notably hitting double figures for goals in each of his last five seasons in London. He’s been one of the most consistent players in English football for a while.

As Ndiaye is, he’s a regular scorer of goals and a regular provider of chances. When it comes to their progressive play, however, they are very similar.

Last season, Bowen completed 4.41 progressive actions per 90, of which 2.80 were progressive carries and 1.61 were progressive passes. How does Everton’s star man compare? Well, the Senegalese produced 4.43 progressive actions, 2.97 progressive carries and 1.45 progressive passes.

Judging by those numbers, the threat Moyes could unlock from both flanks would be huge. It would also significantly ease the goalscoring burden put on Beto and Barry. In Bowen, they’d be signing someone who could be even more prolific than their current striker options.
