Arsenal are Premier League champions, but the true marker of Mikel Arteta‘s success over the past six-and-a-half years is the identity that has been instilled throughout a period of continual growth.

Consistency is the key to success, and Arsenal’s maintained charge at the league title allowed them to eventually find an opening. Liverpool and Manchester City have enjoyed their triumphs in recent years, but neither have maintained the same high baseline as the Gunners.

Arteta is now determined to sign players this summer and defend his title, but he is also planning ahead, looking at up-and-coming prospects who can keep the Emirates at the top of the English ladder.

Leicester City prodigy Jeremy Monga was considered the ultimate star for the future to sign this summer, but Arsenal’s deal for the young attacker has fallen through at the eleventh hour.

The latest on Arsenal’s move for Jeremy Monga

Arsenal have lost the race to sign Monga, with Manchester City hijacking the move for the 16-year-old Leicester star.

It’s a setback, but one which the Gunners can swiftly overcome. The champions have one of the richest academy systems in the world, the likes of Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri playing roles in Mikel Arteta’s project.

Monga is set to join City in a £10m deal, ending a lengthy process that Arsenal officials felt would end with one of England’s most exciting talents headed for the Emirates Stadium.

This will come as a tough pill to swallow for the Gooner persuasion, but it’s important to note that Arteta and technical director Andrea Berta pulled out of negotiations in the end, unwilling to pay £10m for such a young and unproven attacker.

Dowman and Nwaneri are first-class prospects, and there’s another Hale Ender who could even be a bigger talent than Monga, yet to arrive but considered a potential superstar.

Arsenal have already signed a bigger talent than Monga

The dark days of mismanagement are long gone at Arsenal. This is one of the shrewdest and most prudent outfits in Europe, and their dual signing of the Quintero brothers illustrates that point.

Edwin and Holger Quintero are twins who have both penned a deal with the English champions, set to be finalised at the end of the 2026/27 campaign.

Both are exciting up-and-comers, but given that we are looking at ways to circumvent the Monga setback in north London, it’s Edwin who could be the more exciting prospect right now, boasting the flair and natural physicality to make his mark on the Gunners’ right side in the coming years. Holger, in contrast, is more of a midfield playmaker.

Analyst Ben Mattinson has already praised the “skilful” winger, pointing toward his expert dribbling ability and knack at fooling defenders with sharp, snappy and unpredictable movements, shimmying this way and that.

Missing out on Monga is frustrating, but Quintero really might have more in his locker, described as a “10/10 talent” by football scout Jacek Kulig.

The early readings are promising: for Ecuador’s U17. side, he has scored four goals across 14 appearances, and he is expected to break into the Independiente Del Valle first team imminently.

Last season, the average age of Arsenal’s starting line-up in the Premier League was 25.7, placing them at the middle of the pile. There is hardly anything to be worried about here, but it would be interesting to see more youthful quality bursting onto the scene.

Saka, of course, is the gold standard, now a title-winning poster boy for the Emirates side. However, Quintero has the potential to rival the Three Lions superstar, and it’s exciting to see that he and his brother have already been sealed for the future.

It’s hard to judge a rising star who is still a year away from their 18th birthday, but we can safely say that Arsenal believe they have a potential superstar on their hands, someone who could offer everything that Monga was expected to bring – and then some.
