After losing Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth around £100m, Newcastle United have sprung into life in the summer transfer window.
The Magpies have already announced their Anthony Gordon replacement in Bouzamana Toure, and have agreed an overnight deal to sign Sean Steur from Ajax.
The 18-year-old looks set to arrive in a deal worth €27m (£23m) in what marks the start of Newcastle’s midfield rebuild.
Up next looks to be Johan Manzambi. According to David Ornstein, Newcastle have opened talks to sign the Swiss midfielder and want him as well as the deal for Steur.
The Freiburg star has enjoyed an excellent World Cup campaign and is now a leading contender to arrive in Tyneside. But even then, the Magpies aren’t done on the midfield front.
The third name on their list is Lamine Camara.

Credibility |
With speculation surrounding Bruno Guimaraes’ future and Tonali already out the door, Camara makes perfect sense for Newcastle. Their interest in the AS Monaco man is no secret and has been ongoing for months. |
|
Finances |
Whilst some absurd numbers have been flying around the Premier League’s midfield market, Camara would come as a bargain deal – Monaco reportedly value their star at just £35m. With Manzambi priced at £50m, the total cost of all three players would be £108m, just £8m more than the Tonali sale. |

Insight |
The midfielder’s out of possession work is his most impressive and that’s something Newcastle desperately need to revive their midfield. Last season, he was described as a “fantastic” box-to-box midfielder by scout Jacek Kulig after an excellent display against PSG. |
|
Impact |
If it is to be that Steur, Manzambi and Camara all arrive in the coming weeks, that could open the door for Guimaraes to leave the club. Arsenal, like Tottenham with Tonali, would however have to make an offer PIF deem too good to refuse, with Newcastle no longer under significant PSR pressure following their recent sales. |
Camara is one to watch and could even come at a bargain price this summer, as Newcastle look to welcome a flurry of impressive additions.
Newcastle prioritising Lamine Camara deal
Various reports have linked Camara with Tyneside, and Football FanCast sources understand the Monaco man is indeed the next in their sights after Manzambi and Steur.
The Senegal star has been linked with Liverpool in recent months, but sources close to the player understand that interest has cooled as they focus on reinforcing their attack, and Newcastle are now firmly in the driver’s seat.
PIF are now in overdrive trying to seal three deals at once, after which attention will turn to the right-back position.
Camara would be the perfect partner for Guimaraes
In a world where Guimaraes stays put this summer, a move for Camara would be perfect.
A lot of the Brazilian’s best work has had to come in a deeper role in the last two years at Newcastle, providing a balancing act next to Tonali and Joelinton – the arrival of Camara would finally put an end to that.
The 22-year-old is an excellent midfielder out of possession and would do the leg work to allow Guimaraes to push on and become more of an attacking influence, where he showed last season the sort of end product he can produce.

Camara’s recovery numbers particularly stand out, and for just £35m, he would take St James’ Park by storm.
