BRADENTON, Fla. – IMG Academy’s sprawling campus played host to the Under Armour Next S7VNS this weekend, a three-day 7-on-7 tournament featuring a collection of highly-recruited prospects across the 2027, 2028, and 2029 recruiting cycles. Carrollton (Ga.) and Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy battled the Wunna Warriors, a staple on Overtime’s OT7 circuit, and three other Under Armour-sponsored all-star teams with Carrollton ultimately claiming the championship on Sunday morning.
The collection of talent primarily allocated to the 2028 and 2029 classes would not succumb to both the heat and the elements of a Florida summer. Here are the most noteworthy performers from yet another competitive 7-on-7 outing.
ALPHA DOG: AMARE PATTERSON, NORTH CAROLINA TOP247 WR COMMIT
It has been a banner off-season for the Top247 receiver out of South Carolina as he’s now a two-time Alpha Dog recipient. After earning the distinction at The Opening Miami. back in January, Patterson blazed new personal records this spring in both the 100-meter dash (10.50 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (21.51), ultimately placing second in both at the SCHSL 4A State Championships in May.
After announcing a pledge to North Carolina last month, Patterson flew out to Oregon for The Opening Finals where he had strong showings on both days of competition. That brings us to this weekend where Patterson picked up right where he left off at Nike’s HQ. The South Carolina native fought through a minor injury suffered Friday and turned plenty of heads early Saturday when he came down with an awesome catch at the back the end zone where he jumped into a different area code. The play was somehow ruled an incompletion, but it did not keep Patterson for scoring more touchdowns.
It was his reception in the final game of Saturday’s action against Carrollton that really stole the show as he raced down the sideline for a one-handed snag that showcased the bevy of position-specific skills at his disposal. Patterson continues to shine in various settings in should be in store for an exciting senior campaign.
NEXT TEN
–Kaleb Woseley, 2028 CB: The combination of patience and physicality on Woseley’s film traveled with him to Florida. His first disruptive play on the ball in the tournament’s initial game was a precursor for his performance as a whole with multiple games featuring more than one rep where his physical reroute attempt either negated an offensive weapon completely or disrupted their timing enough to generate a pass break up. Woseley also logged an interception in said game that was taken away by a very questionable pass interference call.
