Aston Villa now in “advanced talks” to sign £17m former Premier League star

Aston Villa have now entered “advanced talks” to sign AC Milan’s Pervis Estupinan, and the left-back’s stance on the move has been revealed.

With Lucas Digne poised to join Paris Saint-Germain, Villa will need to sign a left-back this summer, and Estupinan has already proven himself in the Premier League, courtesy of spending three seasons with Brighton & Hove Albion.

During his time with the Seagulls, the left-back made a name for himself as a player capable of making an impact on the front foot, picking up one goal and seven assists in 35 matches during his debut Premier League campaign.

However, presenter Ryan Adsett went on to praise the full-back for his defensive attributes in the following season, saying: “Pervis Estupiñan is an exceptional footballer. Incredible on the ball, very good going forward and strong in defence.

“An unbelievable upgrade on Marc Cucurella, it’s not even close.”

That said, the 28-year-old was unable to make much of an impact at AC Milan after joining last summer, featuring just 19 times in the Serie A, and the Serie A giants could now be open to a sale for around €20m (£17m).

The latest on Pervis Estupinan to Aston Villa

After failing to make the desired impact at the San Siro, Estupinan could be set for a return to the Premier League this summer, and Aston Villa have now entered “advanced talks”, journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed.

The 56-cap Ecuador has already “agreed to the move”, which suggests Villa could get a deal over the line soon, barring any last-minute hitches.

How Pervis Estupinan compares to Lucas Digne

At 28, the AC Milan full-back is over four years younger than Digne, and he could be a like-for-like replacement, in the sense that he is also capable of contributing on the front foot, grabbing five goals and 14 assists in 104 appearances for Brighton.

The Frenchman, on the other hand, has chipped in with a combined 11 assists for Unai Emery‘s side over the past two Premier League seasons.

In terms of defensive output, the two left-backs are also relatively well-matched throughout the 2025-26 campaign, which suggests Estupinan could be a solid replacement for the PSG-bound defender.

Should they get a deal for Estupinan over the line, Aston Villa may then have to turn their attentions towards bringing in a new attacking midfielder, with Morgan Rogers set to join Premier League rivals Chelsea, following a surprise twist.

Arsenal held face-to-face talks with Rogers, in an attempt to lure him to the Emirates Stadium, but the Blues have now agreed a £117m deal, and the England star is set to complete his medical on Monday.
