Ipswich Town and Leeds United are now in the race to sign AC Milan star Yunus Musah.
Despite racking up 47 caps for the USMNT, Musah wasn’t selected in Mauricio Pochettino’s World Cup squad, but he has been a Champions League regular over the past three seasons, making a total of 19 appearances in Europe’s elite competition.
Seven of those came on loan at fellow Serie A side Atalanta last season, while the midfielder made just 19 appearances in the league, and featured for just 561 minutes in total, in what was a difficult campaign.
However, the 23-year-old has previously impressed in the Serie A, with former AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli once saying: “He has different characteristics from [Rade] Krunić and [Yacine] Adli, and he is able to penetrate when he plays further forward. He has qualities that we will need a lot; he is a complete player, and wherever I use him, he will be important for the team.”
As pointed out by Pioli, the American is able to influence the game from a number of different positions, including central midfield, on both flanks, and even as a right-wing back, which would make him a versatile addition to Gary O Neil’s squad.
However, the Tractor Boys could be set to face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Leeds.
Frontrunner named in the race for Yunus Musah
According to reports from Italy, Milan will green light a deal for Musah this summer should they receive just €20m (£17m), a bargain fee for a player established in top European leagues, as well as boasting Champions League and international experience.
The final decision will rest with new manager Ruben Amorim, who will run the rule over him in pre-season, but all signs are pointing to an exit.
And it appears as though Leeds are currently ahead of Ipswich in the race for the former Valencia man’s signature, as they have already made contact, which the 2025-26 Championship promotion winners are yet to do.

Ipswich closing in on another signing amid Musah pursuit
Although Ipswich remain in the hunt to sign Musah, they are closing in on the signing of a forward, namely Leicester City’s Abdul Fatawu, according to a report from Sky Sports.
The Tractor Boys are set to jet out for their pre-season training camp on Monday, which they are hoping Fatawu will be able to take part in, and they could be set to pay around £20m to secure his signature, should Leicester be willing to cash-in.
