Norwich City‘s summer rebuild has been built around adding players who fit Philippe Clement’s style, and Balthazar Pierret appears to tick plenty of boxes.
The French midfielder has earned every step of his career.
After progressing through France’s lower leagues, he established himself with Quevilly-Rouen before earning a move to Serie A side Lecce.
Breaking into one of Europe’s most tactical leagues is never easy, but Pierret gained valuable experience before returning to France with Red Star in January to play regular football.
Across the 2025/26 season, he featured in both Serie A and Ligue 2, giving him experience in two very different environments.
Pierret is not a midfielder who fills highlight reels with spectacular goals or tricks. Instead, he excels at reading danger, winning second balls and keeping possession moving.
Standing over six feet tall, he also brings a physical edge that Championship teams often need over the course of a demanding campaign.
Those qualities would suit Clement’s football.
Pierret’s disciplined style could provide the platform for the Canaries’ more creative players to flourish further forward.
He may not be the biggest name linked with Carrow Road this summer, but sometimes those are the players who make the biggest difference once the season gets underway.
Clement personally pushing to sign Pierret for Norwich City
According to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Norwich are pushing hard to bring Pierret to Carrow Road before the new season begins.
The report claims Clement is personally involved in the pursuit and is trying to convince Red Star to sanction a deal for the midfielder, who Tavolieri describes as a ‘true impact player’.
That level of involvement underlines just how highly the Norwich manager rates the Frenchman as he continues shaping his squad for the campaign ahead.
Managerial influence can often prove decisive in transfers, but convincing Red Star will not be straightforward.
The French club only signed Pierret permanently earlier this year and have little reason to weaken their own midfield unless a proposal makes financial and sporting sense.
They also know his value could continue rising if he produces another strong season, while it is believed they’d want north of £400,000 to sell him right now.

Even so, Norwich appear determined. Clement has already made it clear he wants players capable of raising standards immediately rather than simply adding numbers, and Pierret fits that profile.
This feels like a smart target.
He appears to have the experience, tactical awareness and mentality to handle Championship football without arriving with unrealistic expectations. If Clement can persuade both the player and Red Star, Norwich may be signing one of the window’s quieter but more effective additions.
