It’s the summer of midfielders in the Premier League and Manchester United are more than playing their part. The Red Devils have already welcomed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, spending less than £90m, and now have their sights set on a third addition in the middle of the park.
Whilst names like Alex Scott continue to steal headlines, it’s Manu Kone who finds himself on Man United’s radar. The AS Roma midfielder impressed at the World Cup, even as France finished fourth, and now has interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and those at Old Trafford.

It should come as no surprise that Man United are interested in signing Kone. In this summer’s market, he’s set to be a bargain deal at just €60m (£51m) and that matches the work they’ve already done to sign Tielemans and Santos. Liverpool have been slightly slow off the mark this summer, but now that the World Cup is over and Andoni Iraola can get a real look at his side, they may spring into action. Kone is a long-term target, but a lot of work needs to happen before they can beat Man United to a deal. |

As for Arsenal, a lot of their focus is reportedly set on signing Bruno Guimaraes. The Gunners are not giving up and unless they miss out on the Newcastle star, a move for Kone seems unlikely. |
Roma’s financial difficulties means that they’re ready to sanction the sale of their midfielder at the right price and that’s yet another boost for Man United.
Man Utd now in constant talks to sign Kone
According to Corriere dello Sport journalist Eleonora Trott, as relayed by Sport Witness, Man United are now in constant talks to sign Kone and are in pole position to secure his arrival.
The World Cup has bumped his price-tag up to the €60m-mark (£51m), but that is still more than affordable for the Red Devils who have been quoted far more absurd fees throughout the summer.
Kone has already green-lit a move to the Premier League and that, alongside rumours that United are leading the race, is a major boost for those at Old Trafford.
In terms of suitability, placing a tireless midfielder next to a technician in Tielemans and a box-crashing star in Santos certainly wouldn’t be a bad idea. On paper, it would be a midfield of pure balance for Man United.
As far as INEOS are concerned, too, it would be seen as a transfer masterclass if they managed to rebuild their midfield for less than £150m in the current market.
