The Dallas Stars have they have signed forward Jason Robertson to a one-year deal at $12 million.

The Jason Robertson Situation Remains an Interesting One to Follow

Robertson filed for arbitration back on July 5th ahead of the 5 pm deadline. His qualifying offer was for $9.3 million. His hearing was scheduled for Saturday, July 25th, at 9 am. The goal between the player and team was to avoid arbitration. Those hearings never go well for either side, and it leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouth.

However, as Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill has stated from the start, the goal has been to sign Robertson. Nill views Robertson as a big part of the team and a priority to sign. While a one-year deal was not the ideal option, Robertson is signed and is staying in Dallas.

“Jason has been a cornerstone of our franchise since he was drafted in 2017,” Nill said in a press release. “A dynamic and skilled player, he has been one of the league’s top offensive threats since making his NHL debut. We’re excited for what this season will bring for both Jason and the team as we continue our push to bring a championship to Dallas.”

Jason Robertson’s Contract Situation is Really Tricky

The Dallas Stars can continue to discuss an extension with Robertson and his camp. Robertson is now eligible to sign an extension as of January 1st. The noise surrounding this player will dwindle as of now; you know some will ramp it back up again if he isn’t signed by the trade deadline.

However, knowing the number for the salary cap will be vital for Nill. It will be easier to give Jason Robertson a higher AAV next season with money coming off the books like Tyler Seguin and his $9.850 million AAV. But the Stars still have some work to do this offseason as they are $1.36 million over the $105 million salary cap for this season.

It is clear that Jason Robertson didn’t want to leave Dallas. He always believed in the Stars and felt they had a winning organization. If he didn’t think he could win in Dallas, he would have left and taken the money with the Seattle Kraken, St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins, and the other teams that were courting him. But Robertson didn’t want to go to any of those teams; he wanted to remain in Dallas.

Robertson led the team in scoring with 96 points (45 goals and 51 assists in 82 regular-season games). The 2025-26 season was the third 40-goal season of his career. In six Stanley Cup Playoff games, Robertson had eight points (five goals and three assists). These types of goal scorers don’t grow on trees, and they are hard to replace.

In 456 regular-season games, Robertson has 490 points (213 goals and 277 assists). In addition, Robertson has 52 points (23 goals and 29 assists) in 62 career playoff games. He was a vital piece to the Stars making it to the Western Conference Final from 2023 to 2025.

For now, the two parties can enjoy the rest of their summer until this ramps up again during the season.
