Everton are targeting a deal for Bologna star Jonathan Rowe, who has taken an unconventional route to becoming a newly sought-after English winger on the continent.
Rowe has taken an unconventional route to becoming one of the most sought-after English wingers on the continent.
After emerging from Norwich City’s academy, Rowe announced himself during the 23/24 Championship season by scoring 13 goals in all competitions and becoming one of the Canaries’ biggest attacking threats.
His pace, willingness to take on defenders and eye for goal quickly attracted interest from clubs across Europe, eventually leading to a move to Marseille before Bologna secured his signature a year later.
His first season in Italy showed another side to his game.
Although Bologna asked him to adapt to a more tactical style of football, Rowe still made a significant contribution across Serie A, domestic cup competitions and Europe.
He finished the campaign with eight goals and five assists in total, while also producing several eye-catching displays in the Europa League against high-level sides.
His versatility allowed him to play on either wing or in more advanced attacking roles, making him one of Bologna’s most valuable forwards.
At 23, Rowe still has plenty of room to improve.
His explosive acceleration, direct running and confidence in one-on-one situations would give Everton another genuine outlet in transition, while his work rate fits the demanding style David Moyes has traditionally expected from wide players.
His end product could become more consistent, and he occasionally tries to force opportunities rather than making the simpler decision.
However, those are natural improvements for a player still developing, and his ceiling is still extremely high.
The Toffees have been linked with him since early 2025, but their interest hasn’t faltered in the slightest.

Credibility |
TEAMtalk has strengthened its transfer coverage through a network of club contacts and journalists, regularly publishing exclusives. While negotiations can always change quickly, its source-based reporting has become increasingly detailed, particularly on Premier League transfer developments. |
|
Finances |
Bologna have Rowe tied down until 2029 and are under no immediate pressure to sell. Previous reports have valued him at around £42m, meaning Everton would likely need to make a significant investment if they want to beat rival interest from other Premier League clubs. |
|
Insight |
Rowe is an aggressive, fearless winger who thrives in one-versus-one situations. Comfortable on either flank, he combines explosiveness with a willingness to press from the front. His development across England, France and Italy is also a major plus. |

Impact |
|
His report states that the Toffees have entered ‘firm discussions’ over a possible move for Rowe, with sources indicating he has become a serious attacking target as Moyes continues rebuilding his squad.
Everton are understood to value the England Under-21 international’s pace, energy and creativity as they look to strengthen their options in the final third.
Meanwhile, Moyes is also believed to be a huge personal admirer of Rowe.
Securing a deal will not be straightforward.
Rowe only joined Bologna last summer and remains under a long-term contract, leaving the Italian club in a strong negotiating position. They have little pressure to sell unless a substantial offer arrives, particularly after his encouraging debut campaign.

The Merseysiders also face competition from Premier League rivals, with a £42m price tag mooted by media sources.
Even so, Everton’s interest is completely understandable, they just face a few hurdles getting this one over the line.
