Will Dach end the season in Montreal?
Anthony Di Marco of the Daily Faceoff was on TSN Radio in Montreal and was asked about Kirby Dach and where he fits in with the Montreal Canadiens, and whether he will finish his contract in Montreal.

NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens, Kirby Dach, and Sam Montembeault
Host: “And just locally here in Montreal, I know the latest news was last week with Kirby Dach getting that one-year deal at 3.6 million after he was qualified for $4 million. Does he finish this contract with the Canadiens?”
Anthony Di Marco: “It was just a one-year deal. Was that it?”
Host: “Yeah, one year, 3.6 million”
Di Marco: “I mean, I think that he does, just because I don’t see the Canadiens being sellers next season. I think he’s a valuable player in a bottom six more. But Sean, I don’t know if it was you and I talking about this off the air, on the air. But like, you just don’t really know where he fits. Is he a winger? Is he a center? Is he a depth guy? Can he be a scorer? So I don’t think he’s traded, but I just struggle to see where he fits in the lineup.”

Host: ” This is one of the things, and I talk about this all the time with the players, is knowns and unknowns. Like certain players, I just like because I know who they are. Like I like Jake Evans. I know who he is. The Habs know who he is. There’s no beating around the bush about what kind of player he’s going to be. Kirby Dach is an unknown, and I think that that’s one of the biggest questions: why he only got a one-year deal.”
Di Marco: “And that’s it. And I think you see the skill with him. You see the pedigree with him. Was it two or three seasons ago that he was playing on the left wing with (Nick) Suzuki and (Cole) Caufield, where he had that really good start before the injury.
That’s another major unknown with him, is the injury history or unknown or uncertainty with him. And I mean, you just like the player because you see what he could bring, and he is kind of a Swiss Army knife.

But it’s almost like a jack of all trades, master of none. Which is a good thing. But at a certain point, when you’re trying to build a Cup contender, and which I think the Canadiens are on the cusp of doing, you really want to know where he fits in the lineup.
And look, you have a hole at second-line center. You arguably have a hole at second-line left wing. You move off of Joe Veleno, so now you maybe want a fourth-line guy. And in theory, Dach could be all three of those, but you kind of, at some point, want him to lock in a spot so you could build everything beyond him.”
