A’mir Sears, the class of 2028‘s top football recruit, is reclassifying to 2027 and has a commitment date, the Miami Columbus five-star athlete told 247Sports.
Following what will now be his senior year, the expectation is that he will set himself up to enroll early at the school of his choice in December.
Regarding that landing spot, Sears is ready to make his college choice.
He has narrowed his recruitment to a select number of finalists, but that will be revealed right before he makes his commitment Friday at 5 p.m. ET on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel.
His most recent trimmed list included Auburn, Florida, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Syracuse and Texas A&M.
As a sophomore, Sears totaled 61 tackles, 11 pass breakups, three interceptions and a forced fumble while catching 42 passes for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns.
SCOUTING REPORT
“Best-kid-in-the-park type of athlete who plays with an edge. Could be deployed in multiple roles but warrants a look at cornerback. Swallows up assignments with his length and wiry strength. Quick to react in coverage and isn’t afraid to take risks.
“Strikes as an open-field tackler and gets guys on the ground. Frame, bounce and instincts suggest impact potential on Saturdays.” — Andrew Ivins, 247Sports director of scouting
