ATLANTA — The fourth installment of the 2026 MaxPreps Game of the Week series heads to Southern California when No. 8 Centennial (Corona) takes on No. 9 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) on Friday, Sept. 11.

Centennial and Mater Dei have combined for 34 Southern Section titles and six state championships. The programs have produced seven NFL Draft picks since 2016.

Under 300-game winner Matt Logan, Centennial beat Mater Dei twice in 2026, including a 28-27 victory in the Southern Section Division 1 semifinals. Prior to last season, the Monarchs had won seven straight in the series dating back to 2018.

The MaxPreps Game of the Week showcases the nation’s premier high school football matchups while celebrating the athletes, coaches and communities that make Friday nights special. Throughout game week, MaxPreps will provide extensive coverage, including feature stories, player profiles, rankings analysis, videos, photography, social media content and comprehensive game coverage.

“These aren’t just two of the perennial powers in Southern California, but in the entire
nation. This is one of the best games in the country this year and
should be another classic battle between the SoCal rivals,” MaxPreps National Football Editor Zack Poff said.
