How Spurs could sign the next Mohammed Kudus with £60m deal

The feeling around Tottenham Hotspur this summer is one of positivity and excitement, with the doom and gloom of last season now firmly in the rear view mirror.

Roberto De Zerbi will be hoping he can mastermind the squad to a place in Europe next season, after the Lilywhites endured two near misses with relegation.

Big money has already been spent by the Italian during the current window, with over £230m worth of new additions arriving in North London ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

However, one player already on the books could have the greatest impact under De Zerbi, but fans will have to be patient before he can thrive under the new boss.

Why Kudus could thrive under De Zerbi at Spurs

Last summer, Spurs completed the £55m signing of winger Mohammed Kudus from rivals West Ham United in an attempt to bolster the club’s attacking department.

The 26-year-old started life in North London like a house on fire, subsequently registering two goals and five assists in his first 19 Premier League games for the club.

However, he’s been missing since the start of January with a hamstring issue and has only now started to step up his recovery after undergoing surgery to fix the issue.

Whilst a return date is yet to be announced for the Ghanaian, he could be a player who thrives under De Zerbi’s management – with the Italian previously trying to sign the forward during his time at Brighton.

Even after his appointment in North London, the 47-year-old has heaped praise on the attacker, stating: “Kudus was in my head a crucial player, especially for the position, but we have to look forward anyway.”

It’s evident the manager has huge confidence in the 26-year-old to star under his guidance, but time will tell as to how quickly he can feature for the first time since his appointment.

Kudus has proven he’s capable of providing the goods for the Lilywhites, but it’s crucial the medical staff don’t rush him back to avoid a recurrence of his long-term issue.

How Spurs can secure a Kudus repeat this summer

Despite De Zerbi’s impressive words on the Ghanaian attacker, the hierarchy appear to be conducting work to land other attacking talents this summer.

Savinho has constantly been mentioned as a possible target for the Lilywhites, but a deal is yet to progress – which has seen other players touted with moves to North London.

One player who has emerged as a possible transfer target is Chelsea winger Pedro Neto, who could be set to leave Stamford Bridge before the summer window closes.

It’s been reported by TEAMtalk that Spurs have recently entered talks with Xabi Alonso’s men to register interest in a move for the Portuguese international.

They also claim Manchester City are firmly in the race for the 26-year-old’s signature, which has led to a £60m price tag being placed on the attacker’s head.

Neto may not be many of the supporters’ first choice, but he would emulate Kudus in moving to North London from another club within England’s top-flight.

His skillset of preferring to operate off the right-hand side, whilst cutting inside onto his favoured left-foot is also extremely similar to the injured Spurs star.

The Portuguese star’s stats from the recent campaign showcase his talents in the final third, many of which would hand De Zerbi an added threat in forward areas.

Neto managed to complete an impressive tally of 1.7 successful dribbles per 90 in the Premier League last term – subsequently placing him above 80% of attackers in England’s top-flight.

Landing the 26-year-old could see De Zerbi finally land the direct and pacey winger he’s been hunting for, especially in the absence of Kudus from his current side.

His tally of 1.3 successful crosses per 90 – ranking him in the top 10% of wingers in the league – highlights his ability to also provide chances for others and backs up José Mourinho’s claim that he’s “one of the best wingers in the world.”

He ended the recent campaign in England’s top-flight with 11 combined goals and assists, with only Richarlison registering more for the Lilywhites last season.

£60m may be seen as an expensive deal for the winger, but it could prove to be a superb deal if he can reach the next level in his development upon any move across the capital.

His similarities to Kudus are there for all to see – but the supporters will be hoping the similarities aren’t reflected in his injury status, with Neto needing to provide the goods in the Ghanaian’s absence.
