Following the saga surrounding Couhaib Driouech’s failed move to Ibrox, Glasgow Rangers are still in the market for at least one new winger ahead of the looming deadline.

The sense of doom and gloom has at least been eased somewhat by Sunday’s thumping 5-1 win, but Derek McInnes will be under no illusions – this squad needs more quality.

Well, one man who has been tipped to make the switch is Brighton and Hove Albion starlet, Amario Cozier-Duberry, with the Gers already seeing a £7.5m bid rejected for the 21-year-old.

He evidently won’t come cheap, but just why is the former Arsenal winger quite so highly rated?

Why Rangers are so keen to sign Cozier-Duberry

The nagging issue might be the left flank at Ibrox, following the return of Mikey Moore to Tottenham Hotspur, yet it’s fair to say the Light Blues are still also seeking to fill Vaclav Cerny’s void on the opposite side.

Oliver Antman and Andreas Skov Olsen simply didn’t cut it last season, falling well short of expectations as they scored just two Premiership goals between them.

A quality solution is needed on the right flank, and while the addition of Daisuke Yokota is a start, bringing Cozier-Duberry into the fold could be a real statement of intent.

Previously tipped to be the next Bukayo Saka during his time in north London, the diminutive left-footer made the move to Brighton in the summer of 2024, having since spent the last two seasons on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers, respectively.

He did only start six Championship games in 2024/25, although his move to Bolton last term proved far more fruitful, the fleet-footed talent helping propel the club to promotion out of League One.

Operating in England’s third tier, he scored and assisted 18 goals, while creating a further ten ‘big chances’, having also ranked second in the division in terms of total successful dribbles completed (65).

He’s a talent alright, with the only concern likely to be the level he has been operating at, with Rangers stung time and again by looking to the lower leagues of English football.

At 21, of course, he still has plenty of time to develop, but might it be worth considering a more proven option too?

How Rangers could upgrade on Cozier-Duberry

As per journalist Pete O’Rourke, Brighton are set to demand as much as £10m if they are to cash in this summer, a hefty sum at a time when Rangers are also lining up a marquee move for Portland Timbers striker, Kevin Kelsy.

Splashing the cash might well be a risk worth taking, but the Gers would be investing more in Cozier-Duberry’s potential, rather than what he’s showcased at the elite level.

With that in mind, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they do pivot to a player like Camilo Mena, the Lechia Gdansk winger have been tipped for a move throughout the window.

As per reports in Poland, the belief is that talks are ramping up regarding a potential Ibrox switch for the 23-year-old, with the deal currently ‘gaining momentum’.

There is a feeling that something may develop ‘in the coming days’, with prior reports indicating that Mena – valued at £3.4m – is keen on making the move to Glasgow.

Just two years older than Cozier-Duberry, the Colombian could be another long-term fit for McInnes, yet one who has already flourished in what is considered by Global Football Rankings to be the 12th-best league in the world, the Ekstraklasa. For comparison, League One, where Cozier-Duberry was operating last term, is way down at 40th.

That context is needed when assessing Mena’s form in Poland, the in-demand winger scoring and assisting 13 goals last term from 31 league outings.

That tally was below what the then-Bolton loanee achieved, although Mena did better the younger man in terms of big chances created (13), while matching Cozier-Duberry in terms of both key passes per game (1.6) and successful dribbles completed per game (1.9).

It’s also worth noting that while the Englishman had struggled the year prior, registering just one goal involvement for Blackburn, Mena was again in fine form across 2024/25 in Gdansk, racking up 12 goals and assists, while creating nine big chances.

Where Mena also excels is with regard to his work out of possession, averaging 2.3 tackles and interceptions and 5.6 ball recoveries per game in 2025/26, such an asset when defending from the front.

For Cozier-Duberry, meanwhile, he averaged just 1.5 and 3.7 for those same two metrics, respectively.

Perhaps, considering that Saka comparison and the size of the price tag, the Brighton youngster might well have the higher ceiling, yet if McInnes is looking for someone to come in and hit the ground running, then Mena might just be a step above in that sense.
