If it needed any reminding, Casey Barner reminded everyone last night why he’s the No. 1-ranked prospect in Georgia for the 2028 class.
The Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern safety was named player of the game in the televised 40-10 win over Marietta (Ga.) Kell. Barner had a few-drive stretch that included a 70-yard touchdown run as a running back, and a third-down tackle for loss and later highlight-reel interception as a safety.
From that point forward, the 30-point rout was on.
“Highlight of the game was probably the interception,” Barner told 247Sports. “I love turnovers. I love changing the game. I feel like that was the highlight of the game, a turnover that changed the game. I’ve been doing it since I was 6 years old. Football’s my passion. There’s a lot of plays I gotta clean up. It’s only the beginning of my junior year, so I’ve got a lot of room for growth.”
Despite his self-assessed need for growth, Barner has emerged among the nation’s most wanted prospects in any class but especially in the 2028 cycle.
Barner has game day visits scheduled to the following schools:
