Malcolm Smith knows a little something about defense.

The Super Bowl XLVII MVP with Seattle is now passing along that knowledge to the girls flag football team at Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.) as defensive coordinator.

A standout at Taft (Woodland Hills, Calif.) playing running back and linebacker, Smith was approached by Oaks Christian head coach Marc Tyler about joining his staff, according to a story in the L.A. Daily News

The father of two daughters, Smith told the paper he jumped at the chance.

“I was excited about the growth of the game,” Smith told the Daily News. “I saw the girls’ interest in it, and the original goal was to be an assistant and volunteer. But here I am today. I wanted to impart my little bit of knowledge and experience playing football and sports in general. It was an opportunity to pass the information on.”

The Lions are 3-2 on the season. Oaks Christian has allowed 74 points on the season and already have matched their win total from 2025. The defense is led by junior Addison Davis, who had 19 flag pulls and Audrey Simic with three interceptions.

Smith had a 69-yard pick-six, 10 tackles and fumble recovery in the 43-8 Super Bowl win over Denver. He played collegiately at USC with Tyler before becoming a seventh-round pick by the Seahawks. He played 10 seasons in the NFL.

“I don’t think these kids understand how much of a legend he is,” Tyler told the Daily News. “They listen to him and he’s great.”
