Tottenham have been hit with more bad news in a season full of hits, with one of their top yong talents suffering an injury which is much worse than first thought.
De Zerbi delighted by Simons
Roberto De Zerbi believes he already has a “special connection” with Xavi Simons.
Spurs were moments away from moving out of the Premier League relegation zone on Saturday, only to concede a stoppage-time equaliser in a 2-2 draw at home to De Zerbi’s former club Brighton.
Playmaker Simons created the opening goal for Pedro Porro against the Seagulls and later struck a post before sparking wild celebrations by firing his side back in front with a stunning finish in the 77th minute.
Having operated in a similar position during his playing career, De Zerbi feels he is well placed to get the best out of the Netherlands international.
“He’s lucky to work with me – not because I’m good, because I was number 10,” De Zerbi told SpursPlay.
Deal agreed: Tottenham set to sign £160,000-a-week Premier League star for De Zerbi
The Lilywhites have an agreement on “everything”, says Romano.
“What he thinks now, I thought 20 years ago. So, we have a special connection. I have a special connection with all number 10s I work with.
“I love a number 10. A number 10 has to understand that he has to score and he has to make assists, not just play to be nice to the people – goals and assists.”
Tottenham youngster’s injury halts brilliant loan spell
One of the few success stories at Tottenham this season has been one of their loaned out youngsters – Luka Vuskovic.
The Croatian centre-back joned Hamburg on loan last summer and has been a fixture for the Bundesliga side, starting 25 times in the German top flight and scoring five goals.
His aerial prowess and physical strength at just 19 years of age has drawn rave reviews on the continent, but after picking up what was thought to be just a knock following the recent international break, has now been diagnosed with a more serious problem.
Indeed, according to Bild, via Sport Witness, the young defender’s knee is more ‘severely damaged than previously thought’.
It is now reported he has not even been able to train for two weeks, despite hopes that he would have returned quickly from what was initially reported as a minor issue.
There is currently no timeline on his return, which is worrying news given his excellent form this season, which would have allowed Spurs to either introduce him into the first-team or sell him for profit this summer.
