Newcastle United could replace the exit-linked Anthony Gordon by signing an in-form winger who Crystal Palace have been watching since last year, according to a new report.

Gordon’s future at Newcastle is one of the most significant stories building ahead of this summer’s transfer window, and the uncertainty surrounding the England winger is already shaping the club’s recruitment planning.

Gordon has been one of Newcastle’s most reliable performers since arriving from Everton in January 2023, racking up 67 goal contributions across 152 appearances for the club.

This season alone he has been involved in 22 goals, making him one of the most productive wide players in the Premier League despite the team’s disappointing campaign.

Bayern Munich have identified him as their primary left wing target and, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, believe there is a realistic chance of signing him.

Newcastle staff have ‘totally lost faith’ in player, Eddie Howe has zero belief in him

An exit is well and truly on the cards this summer.

The player himself is rumoured to be open to a move to Germany, potentially inspired by the success Michael Olise enjoyed after making a similar switch.

Arsenal, Man United and Liverpool have also registered interest, ensuring competition for his signature is fierce.

The 25-year-old is under contract until 2030 and the club have set a demanding asking price in response to the growing interest.

He was absent from Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Bournemouth with a hip flexor complaint, though with the summer increasingly dominating conversations around him, his Tyneside career may have already peaked.

Christos Tzolis wants to join Newcastle and could replace Anthony Gordon

It is against that backdrop that Newcastle have begun identifying potential replacements, and one name has emerged from a SportsBoom report this week — Christos Tzolis of Club Brugge.

Christos Tzolis for Club Brugge

The 24-year-old Greek international has enjoyed a remarkable season in Belgium, racking up 16 goals and 22 assists across 46 appearances in all competitions.

In the Belgian Pro League alone he has 13 assists, making him one of the most creative wide players on the continent at this level.

Newcastle are among the clubs monitoring him closely, and SportsBoom understand that Tzolis himself would be attracted to the idea of a move to St James’, viewing Newcastle as a historic club with genuine European ambitions.

Norwich City signed him from PAOK for £11.5 million in 2021 — a club record at the time — and although his time with the Canaries never truly took off at Premier League level, he made a memorable debut in the League Cup by scoring twice and providing two more assists in a 6-0 win over Bournemouth.

Subsequent loan spells at FC Twente and Fortuna Düsseldorf helped him find his feet before Club Brugge signed him permanently last summer for just over £5 million.

He is contracted in Belgium until 2029 and would cost significantly more than the fee Brugge paid for him, with the club likely to demand north of £26 million.

Crystal Palace, who’ve been tracking him since last year, and Leeds United are also interested.

However, Newcastle’s appeal is understood to be a genuine factor in where Tzolis would want to go — making this one to watch as the summer approaches.

He would come in as a direct replacement for Gordon, but Howe’s side may end up paying half of the fee they get for the Englishman to sign Tzolis.
