Miami Columbus athlete A’mir Sears is the 2028 Top247‘s first five-star recruit and newly minted No. 1 overall prospect. Led by director of scouting Andrew Ivins, the 247Sports national scouting team anointed the 6-foot-1, 178-pounder to the top national spot.

Sears’ rise has been anything but sudden. He first appeared on the 7-on-7 radar two years ago. During 247Sports’ conversation with Raw Miami coach Jose Duasso, Sears was introduced at the time as a soft-spoken, long-limbed athlete with a simple assessment: “This is the guy. This is the one.”

That evaluation proved prescient.

Sears has since emerged among high school football’s most coveted players, thriving on the field, in the classroom, on the track and in his community. He holds more than 40 offers, has earned invitations to every major all-star game (with the 2027 adidas Polynesian Bowl chief among them) and is already securing NIL opportunities.

“I’m really just embracing it all,” Sears said upon learning of his No. 1 ranking. “It’s really a blessing. I’m thankful. It’s just part of all the hard work I put in. I’m just really continuing to grind and acting like I don’t have anything to my name.

“Most people look up to me, but it really doesn’t bother me with all I’ve got going on. You know what I’m saying? I’m just really trying to stay level-headed and just be the best version of me, and just one day hopefully be in the draft.”

Sears emphasized the importance of remaining focused.

“I’m just really embracing everything and just soaking it all in,” he said. “I’m really grateful to be right here. There is a lot more work to do. You can’t get complacent. Keep grinding like when you started from day one of your freshman year. Just keep that same mentality. Just keep working on everything.”

While the rankings, offers and national recognition are notable, Sears’ motivation runs deeper.
