Texas A&M made a historic recruiting splash on Friday, landing five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews — the No. 3 overall recruit and top-ranked offensive tackle in the 2027 class. The 6-foot-5½, 300-pounder from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas chose the Aggies over Miami, LSU, and Georgia.
Matthews is the highest-rated offensive tackle recruit to commit to Texas A&M in the modern recruiting era (since 2000) and ranks among the program’s 10 highest-rated overall prospects. Third-year head coach Mike Elko has elevated the Aggies’ recruiting, landing three of the program’s all-time top-10 recruits since arriving in College Station in 2024.
The Aggies have recruited and signed some of the greatest high school prospects of the last quarter-century. Some — like Myles Garrett — went on to enjoy successful college and professional careers. Others, however, transferred out or are viewed as recruiting busts by comparison.
