FRISCO, Texas – The Opening’s seven-stop regional tour wrapped up Sunday with one last-call showcase inside The Star. The camp attracted over 100 prospects from around the country and with The Opening Finals set to take place next month, the competition was ramped up with everyone fighting for a golden ticket to Nike’s World Headquarters. Things got started with testing and positional drills before giving way to 1-on-1 and 7-on-7 battles. 247Sports has top performers and more below.

No prospect arrived with more to prove than Johnson. After having his entire junior season washed away by a lower-body injury, the No. 12-ranked cornerback in the Top247 put on an absolute show while working alongside some of the more established defensive backs in the class.

Johnson exploded through change-of-direction drills with rapid yet controlled feet before opening up the 1-on-1 session with two interceptions and a pass break up on his first three reps. He then proceeded to nearly shut down one side of the field during 7-on-7 action before ending the day with a slick one-handed interception in the camp’s “Final Five” competition.

A two-way playmaker as a sophomore for a storied Long Beach Poly program, Johnson had become almost a forgotten man over the past year. Thankfully, he reminded us Sunday that he’s not only one of the top prospects in California this cycle, but also one of the top covermen in the entire country when healthy.

Johnson’s performance deservingly secured him a spot at The Opening Finals next month. He’s the highest-ranked commit for UCLA right now in what could be a historic haul for first-year head coach Bob Chesney and should be viewed as every bit of a crown jewel for the Bruins.

Gabriel Osborne Jr., 2027 Top247 CB: One of the biggest yetis in the class, we were excited to finally get some eyes on Osborne and he did not disappoint. A long and bouncy outside corner with a decorated multi-sport profile that’s highlighted by a recent Oklahoma 6A silver medal in the long jump, Osborne made a number of acrobatic plays in the 1-on-1 period. That included a contested interception in the deeper third and a leaping PBU at the sideline after he initially got beat on a double move. Osborne also showcased a devastating jam in positional drills, which wasn’t exactly expected. The No. 4-ranked cornerback is far from a complete product, but he’s got an extremely high ceiling with his tools.
