Every recruiting class has them: The household names who are tracked breathlessly, who can send a fan base into a whirlwind with one cryptic tweet, who become water-cooler (i.e., message board) fodder because of two things: They’re really damn good — and they’re uncommitted. As 2027 recruiting hits the spring slate of visits, 247Sports is profiling a slew of these players in the War Daddy series as our analysts handicap far-and-wide recruiting battles and tell you why these players matter on a national scale.
Over the past few years, the emergence of international prospects played a huge role in college football roster building. They’ve come from all across the globe to play for colleges around the country, and this year’s crop is as talented as ever. Perhaps the best international prospect is Ismael Camara. Raised in Le Mans, France, Camara came to the states two ago to play for Gilmer (Texas) High. After landing in East Texas, Camara quickly established himself as a prospect that would soon be on every radar in the country.
Camara’s first major exposure was at the 2025 Under Armour New Orleans camp. Though he had yet to play a varsity snap, Camara turned heads with his size and athleticism. 247Sports national scouting analyst Gabe Brooks wrote the following:
“A massive 2027 prospect, Camara will play his first season this fall at East Texas Class 4A powerhouse Gilmer, where he arrived after moving from France. Camara excelled during 1-on-1 competition against a stellar defensive line group. He earned an Under Armour All-America Game invitation — deservedly so, even without playing varsity snaps at Gilmer yet.
“Camara put himself among the top performers on the offensive line, which was excellent, even with the headline-grabbing exploits of the defensive linemen. His enormous size swallowed up edge speed and will likely provide position versatility in college.”
The 6-foot-6, 340-pounder is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 3 interior offensive lineman nationally and No. 3 overall prospect in Texas.
Camara holds close to 40 offers with all of the nation’s top schools. His arrival to the United States meant that he had a lot of work to do to catch up to the education system. He’s been in summer school since he arrived and is working hard to get caught up this summer and on track to graduate early so he can enroll at a school of his choice. With a busy academic schedule and new status as team captain, Camara decided to cancel his official visits this summer to take care of business. His visit shakeup has the entire recruitment up in the air as schools battle for the prospect dubbed “The French Freak.”
Camara made it clear that relationships and people are going to be a huge factor in his recruitment. The expectation is that any school in the race for Camara is going to offer a competitive financial package. With no clear timeline for his decision, let’s take a look at the major contenders for Camara.
