Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have now made their first move to ignite a transfer battle for an impressive young winger this summer.
Newcastle and Tottenham battling to sign winger
The rumours are continuing to come thick and fast as the transfer window approaches, with Newcastle United and Tottenham among the clubs at the very centre.
That will come as no surprise to onwatching supporters, however, following two incredibly disappointing campaigns. For the Magpies, it was a disaster as soon as Alexander Isak departed for a record fee. They never recovered and even finished below Sunderland and without European qualification.
For Spurs, meanwhile, it was very nearly a historic season for all the wrong reasons, as they were forced to secure their Premier League safety on the final day.
Both sides are now active in the transfer market and reportedly set to pursue the same target. According to The Athletic, Tottenham and Newcastle have made contact to sign Anan Khalaili from Union Saint-Gilloise, expressing their interest in the young winger.
Despite competition from Bournemouth and Napoli, the duo will be hoping to gain an edge and land Khalaili’s signature. The 21-year-old could even come at a cut-price too, given that his current contract expires in 2027.

Newcastle should sign Munoz instead of Khalaili
Newcastle have been on the hunt for a new wide man ever since the departure of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona earlier this month. The Magpies gave in early this time around, accepting a £69m deal and are instantly hoping to splash the cash on the winger’s replacement.
Several names have been mentioned as a result, including Victor Munoz. The Osasuna man has even been named the priority name by some reports, and the emergence of Khalaili should not change that.

Whilst both players are yet to reach the peak of their powers, Munoz is about to experience his first World Cup with Spain and his underlying numbers suggest that he is a star in waiting.
Khalaili’s chance creation is impressive, but he is yet to prove that he can become a reliable, direct winger at the top level and Newcastle are in no position to take a gamble this summer.
