Last summer’s £450m spending spree was seen as a signal of intent by Liverpool Football Club as they aimed to build on the Premier League title triumph the year prior.
Arne Slot was unable to get the best out of the mammoth additions at Anfield, subsequently securing a fifth-place finish in 2025/26 – ultimately costing him his job on Merseyside.
Andoni Iraola is the man who will take the reins next campaign, but the Spaniard will have a real challenge to match the supporters’ expectations in the Premier League.
However, his heavy-metal attacking system could see him capture the hearts of the fanbase, especially given the concerns around Slot’s lack of drive in forward areas.
If he is to be a success after his appointment in 2026/27, the 43-year-old may require added reinforcements within forward areas to help him satisfy the fanbase’s demands.
Liverpool start work on signing £130m star this summer
Mohamed Salah’s departure from Liverpool this summer has only increased the need for added attacking reinforcements ahead of the upcoming campaign.
PSG star Bradley Barcola has been mentioned as just one potential transfer target, with the player himself even stating his desire to depart the Ligue 1 outfit this window.
Arsenal are another club said to be monitoring the 23-year-old’s progress at present, with a £60m transfer fee being mooted to prise him away from Luis Enrique’s men.
He’s not the only attacking talent currently in the hierarchy’s sights at present. Yan Diomande’s name is well known at this point amid speculation he could join Liverpool while Bournemouth winger Rayan is another who could follow Iraola to Anfield.
According to reports from Brazil, via Sport Witness, Liverpool have already started scouting work on the talented teenager who only joined the Cherries for £35m back in January.
The report states that Iraola would love to bring the winger to Anfield with him this summer, but his current employers are extremely reluctant to offload the Brazilian.
However, they have placed a £130m price tag on the 19-year-old’s head, but it’s unclear how much the Reds are willing to spend to secure his signature.
Why Rayan would be a better signing than Barcola for Liverpool
As previously mentioned, this summer will be a crucial period for Liverpool and Iraola if the club are to mount a push for a Premier League title throughout 2026/27.
Barcola has top-level experience, having featured for PSG since the summer of 2023, often playing a key role in their success domestically and continentally.
However, his left-wing role is an area which the Reds already have covered for the immediate and long-term future – with the emergence of teenage star Rio Ngumoha.

Salah’s departure from Anfield has opened up the need for added attacking reinforcements off the right-hand side – something which needs resolving this summer.
Big money will likely need to be spent to replace a player of his calibre, with a deal for Bournemouth star Rayan a move which could see the club land yet another top-level attacking star.
Despite being just 19, the Brazilian has already taken to the Premier League like a duck to water, subsequently scoring five times in his first 15 games in England’s top-flight.
In a short period of time, he’s already proven he’s capable of producing the goods in forward areas – something which Barcola hasn’t managed given his lack of experience in England.
Whilst a deal for Rayan would cost upwards of £100m, it’s a move worth making, especially when considering his dominance over the Frenchman in recent months.
The Bournemouth star, who’s been dubbed “world-class” by teammate Marcus Tavernier, managed to create more chances throughout 2025/26 – highlighting his ability to cause carnage in forward areas.
He also achieved a better conversion rate in front of goal, along with a higher cross success rate – reaffirming his all-round dominance over Barcola in the final third.
At just 19, it’s remarkable to see such a young talent thriving in the Premier League – not to mention having to deal with a huge culture shift and adaptation to a new country.
£130m would be a mind-boggling transfer, but Liverpool would no doubt negotiate a potential transfer to try and secure a move for his services this window.
As a result, the club should desperately look to avoid a move for Barcola and put all of their focus on securing a transfer for Rayan to try and help Iraola in his quest for success.
