Celtic could now splash the cash to welcome an attacking star and commence their summer spending under Martin O’Neill.
With Rangers and Hearts set to go through managerial changes, now is the perfect time for the Bhoys to strengthen. They escaped with their crown last season, but Wilfried Nancy’s spell combined with poor recruitment threatened to hand Hearts some long-awaited history. There cannot be a repeat this summer.
Better than Engels: Celtic line up move to sign 18-cap World Cup star
Celtic are reportedly interested in a deal to sign a star who has already played at the World Cup this month.
Those at Celtic Park have the chance to break away from the chasing pack and recent transfer rumours suggest that they could be about to use the transfer market to do exactly that.
To that end, names like Elias Filet have threatened to steal the biggest headlines. The 24-year-old scored 22 goals for in Switzerland’s second tier last season and could be the answer to Celtic’s striker problem.
That’s not to say he’s the only name on the Hoops’ shortlist, however. They’ve also got their sights set on Taïryk Arconte from French second division side Rodez, as well as a former Real Madrid player, who’d be an excellent addition.
As reported by TuttoMercatoWeb journalist Pietro Celeste and relayed by Sport Witness, Celtic are now in talks to sign Alvaro Rodriguez from La Liga side Elche.
The former Real Madrid man enjoyed a solid campaign last time out, scoring seven goals and creating another five in all competitions to earn his way onto Celtic and Bournemouth’s respective radars.
Alas, as impressive as those goal involvements are, they have seemingly hiked his price. Reports have suggested that Elche are now ready to demand as much as €20m (£17m) to sell their striker, which means that Celtic will have to smash their current transfer record to secure a deal this summer.

It would be some statement from the Bhoys, especially after their hesitation in the market almost cost them last season. At a time when there’s so much uncertainty at the top of Scottish football, the champions must take full advantage.
