Unai Emery is taking a leading role in Aston Villa‘s push to sign an attacking star this summer, as he prepares for life back in the Champions League.

The Villans have plenty of work to do in the coming months. The last time that they were in Europe’s elite competition, they learned a harsh lesson about squad depth.

This time around, whilst SCR (formerly PSR) problems are still hanging over them, Villa Park chiefs are looking to avoid making the same mistake. And that’s seen names such as Leandro Trossard enter their radar.

He impressed for his club last season.

A move for the Arsenal man would make sense for a number of reasons, with one of those reasons centred around the future of Morgan Rogers. The England international is a top target for those in North London and it would only be natural that, as he takes Trossard’s position, the Belgian heads to Villa Park.

A lot of dominoes will need to fall for that to happen, however, including an unwanted one as far as Villa are concerned. Instead, if they really are looking to strengthen their frontline, the Midlands club could focus on another Premier League option.

Emery driving move as Aston Villa eye attacking star

There may well be a reunion on the cards in the Midlands this summer.

According to SportsBoom, Emery is personally driving Aston Villa’s move to sign Marcus Rashford. The winger has been told to leave Manchester United, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe aims to clear his hefty £325,000-a-week (£17m a year) salary.

Although that would make him Villa’s top earner by quite some distance, Rashford needs little introduction to those at Villa Park. It was only two seasons ago that he enjoyed an excellent loan spell at the club, before ultimately heading on loan to Barcelona one year later.

The version of Rashford at Aston Villa was a player still reeling from Man United struggles. Fast-forward a year and this is a player who had 28 goal involvements for Barcelona and earned a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.

If Aston Villa have a chance to secure his signature, then they should go all out this summer and hand Emery the player that he’s personally chasing.
