It would be an almighty blow for Martin O’Neill, as he attempts to defend his side’s title next season, and it wouldn’t be the first time in recent memory that the Bhoys have lost a star man.

It’s a big summer for those in Scotland. The champions can take full advantage of new eras at both Hearts and Old Firm rivals Rangers to push towards glory once again, but they need to get their transfer business right. If it’s anything like the last 12 months, then they could be in trouble.
To that end, however, promising names such as Alvaro Rodriguez have emerged. Although the Elche forward could solve Celtic’s striker problems, they must consider whether he’s worth a club-record fee this summer.
There’s also a number of potential exits to keep an eye on. Daizen Maeda is among those who could leave in the coming months, not long after his heroics, and the same can be said for another attacking star.

Celtic star green lights big-money departure
As reported by SportsBoom, Benjamin Nygren has now gifted Tottenham Hotspur the green light to make their move this summer.
He’s ready to leave Celtic Park in favour of the Premier League and specifically wants to live in London after holding ‘positive’ discussions with Tottenham over personal terms.
Parkhead chiefs will demand a club-record sale of €30m (£26m), which would make the attacker more expensive than record departure Matt O’Riley.

Losing Nygren would be some blow this summer. The Swede enjoyed an excellent debut season in Scotland, scoring 21 goals and assisting another nine in all competitions. Celtic simply couldn’t have asked for much more.
One season later, those numbers would make a £26m deal look cheap, especially when considering that the midfielder is still just 24 years old. If Tottenham turn their interest into a formal offer, Celtic will have plenty to think about this summer.
