Aston Villa will be an interesting side to watch this summer. Whilst, on paper, they’re Europa League winners who are set for the Champions League next season, the reality is that they’ve still got SCR problems hanging over them.

Of course, things are much improved after that Champions League qualification, but that doesn’t rule out the sale of a big name this summer. Arsenal have already got their sights set on Morgan Rogers and there’s no doubt that the England star would generate a hefty fee if he departed.

It’s all about balance for those in the Midlands. Losing Rogers would be an unbelievable blow, but the last time that Villa sold big, they transformed into a Champions League side.

However, there’s also a scenario that they welcome reinforcements without a major sale if they get things right. And that has already seen the Villans shift their focus onto getting one over on Leeds United.

Aston Villa plot last-minute Leeds hijack

After Leeds avoided the drop at the first time of asking in the Premier League last season, they’ve got ambitions of their own. Daniel Farke has more than earned the backing of the 49ers and his first signing of the summer could be on the way.

According to the Athletic, Leeds have held “positive” talks with Harry Wilson as he heads for the exit door as a free agent at Fulham. It would be easy to assume that the Yorkshire club are cruising towards a deal, but Villa may have something to say about that.

As reported by SportsBoom, Aston Villa are now plotting a last-ditch hijack to sign Wilson ahead of Leeds. Whilst the Welshman remains on course to become a free agent, the Villans still stand a chance.

“He’s been incredible. Right now everything he touches becomes something magic, something that will have an impact. You just have to try to take the best from him. It’s the best moment of his career definitely.” – Ex-Fulham manager Marco Silva on Wilson

After 10 goals and seven assists in the Premier League last season, it’s no surprise to see Aston Villa, Leeds and others all attempting to land one of the bargains of the summer.
