This wasn’t a recruiting win that Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes were supposed to get.

Ben’Jarvius Shumaker is a four-star defensive lineman from Ackerman, Miss., and he had committed to the Ole Miss Rebels in early March.

Flips happen all the time on the college football recruiting trail, so it wasn’t that commitment that shielded the Rebels from having anyone else reach out to Shumaker. In fact, as is often the case, a commitment sometimes turns on the pressure from the outside.

No, what made Shumaker’s flip to Colorado such a shocker on Tuesday was that 24 hours previous, he had announced that his recruitment had shut down and he was all-in with Ole Miss.

And then he flipped, because that’s how things roll in 2026.
