After Ohio State took a fast and hard fall in the postseason last season, there were a lot of angry voices who were vocal toward Ryan Day.
That just comes with the territory of being the head coach of one of the most historic college football programs. Nobody’s happy unless you’re winning every game. Day was at the short end of it last season.
So, Buckeyes fans were not happy about how the team’s postseason ended, and neither was Day. Now, the coach is getting cautioned about this coming season and how he needs to make sure the offensive line is much better than it was in 2025. It needs to be ready for a long playoff run, and it just wasn’t last season.
Ohio State coach Ryan Day needs to shape up the offensive line
In a feature from ESPN out on Friday, Day got some reality talk. Jake Trotter of the outlet says that since Ohio State is coming up on one of the most difficult schedules in the college landscape, Day needs to step it up.
“After an undefeated regular season last year, the Buckeyes got beaten up front in postseason losses to Indiana and Miami,” Trotter said. “Veteran starters Austin Siereveld, Luke Montgomery and Carson Hinzman played key roles during Ohio State’s 2024 national championship run, when the Buckeyes dominated the line of scrimmage in convincing victories over Tennessee, Oregon, Texas and Notre Dame.”
Trotter added, “Siereveld, Montgomery and Hinzman anchor a line that needs to be much better, especially with Ohio State facing one of the toughest schedules in the country.”
So, can Day’s offensive line get back to being the kind of line that gives the opposing team nightmares? Absolutely. But it’s not a given, and Day needs to make sure he’s doing everything in his power to make it happen.
