Tottenham are targeting an overhaul to their goalkeeping department this summer having launched a move for Argentina shot-stopper Gerónimo Rulli.
The Lewis family promised to rebuild trust in a letter to Tottenham fans this summer, revealing plans to back manager Roberto De Zerbi.
“That means football comes first. The Board and Executive team have laid out their plans to meet this ambition.
“This will require investment – in our teams, the academy, our backroom functions and more – and we are fully committed to this.

Credibility |
The report on Rulli comes from TyC Sports, which is one of the biggest television networks covering sports in South America. A move to bring in a proven high-level performer between the sticks makes sense with Guglielmo Vicario expected to leave, meaning Rulli would battle Antonin Kinsky for the number one role while Martin Dubravka serves as the experienced third option. |
|
Finances |
A move for Rulli would be well within Tottenham’s means and allow them to spend big in other positions. The 34 year-old is valued at just £7.4m by Marseille and has a contract expiring in 2027, meaning the French side have very little negotiating power if they decide to cash in this summer. |
|
Insight |
The obvious connection between Rulli and Tottenham is manager De Zerbi. The Argentine was the Spurs boss’ clear first-choice throughout his time at Marseille, playing 60 times across two seasons. Those games resulted in just 11 clean sheets however. |
|
Impact |
Rulli’s arrival would be the nail in the coffin of Vicario’s Spurs career, having fallen out of favour at times last season, struggled with injuries and been constantly linked with a move to Inter Milan. |
“We are not selling the club. We are all in. We are investing in it. You will see more of this in the coming months.”
They acted quickly to lock up deals for Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, and have sinced added experienced goalkeeper Dubravka to the ranks.
Tottenham make approach for Rulli
According to Argentine TV network TyC Sports, Boca Juniors are fearing their attempts to sign Rulli may be in danger after Tottenham launched their own move.
The report, translated by Sport Witness, claims Spurs have submitted enquiries to sign the Marseille man, and that is providing an obstacle for the South American outfit.
Marseille would be willing to cash in for £7.4m, which is the exact kind of figure Spurs should be looking to shell out on the position having just signed Kinsky to a new contract.
Kinsky deserves the number one spot
Tottenham may not even be in the Premier League if not for Kinsky, who made dramatic late saves in the draw against Leeds and win over Wolves.
The 23 year-old went from pariah under Igor Tudor to hero under De Zerbi, and his bumper new contract is well deserved, as is a chance to cement himself as De Zerbi’s number one.
The manager praised the youngster’s ability to bounce back following that incredible moment vs Leeds.
“He played in Madrid, he made that mistake, and it was tough for him. He has great personality, strong character and he deserves to play a game like today.”
Rulli therefore seems like the perfect Vicario replacement, serving as the perfect connect between a manager he’s played under for two years and a young goalkeeper still learning what it takes to start at the very top level.
An 8-cap Argentina international and Europa League winner with Villarreal, the 34 year-old looks a wise and shrewd addition to allow Kinsky to shine and the bulk of the club’s transfer funds to go on a move like Mateus Fernandes.
