The New York Rangers were after Alexander Nikishin
NHL Rumour Report: Elliotte Friedman on the FAN Hockey Show on Alexander Nikishin: “I heard the Rangers offered picks including a 1st and Carolina was like, we want a player, I think the Rangers are trying again, we’ll see; they really want him; he would be happy going there.”
Mats Zuccarello going to market
Pierre LeBrun: It’s not a surprise, but the 38-year-old Mats Zuccarello will be going to free agency. He’s recorded 58 points in each of the past two seasons, and coming off a deal that paid him $4.125 million a year.
NHL Rumors: Kirill Marchenko, Zach Werenski, Rasmus Andersson, and John Carlson
Jacob Trouba could be hitting free agency and will generate interest
TSN: Chris Johnston thinks that some of the teams that would have liked to been on John Carlson, would be interested in Trouba.
“I think some of the teams I mentioned that would have liked to have been bidding on Carlson, teams like Tampa, Philadelphia, the Boston Bruins, they’re likely going to have to look elsewhere.”
Trouba is entering free agency at a good time as there won’t be many defensemen who can log the minutes he does, has the experience that he does.
Patrick Kane is likely to test the market
TSN: Chris Johnston says it appears that Patrick Kane will take a look to see what free agency will offer, and there’s likely to be a lot of interest.
“One I would mention that’s been rumored, though, is a fit with the Toronto Maple Leafs. At this point in time, it doesn’t seem to me like that’s actually something that’s likely to materialize. I’m not sure that’s as good a fit as some people have said.
NHL Rumors: Gudas, Greer, Lee, Kane and Giroux
But keep an eye on, whether it’s his hometown, Buffalo Sabres. Does he ponder a return to the Chicago Blackhawks or any number of other situations? I do think Patrick Kane is going to have some options on Wednesday.”
