With Hayden Hackney already on the way, Everton have shifted their focus towards their second signing of the summer.
David Moyes is hoping to bridge the gap between his side and the European places in the coming months, after finishing just points away from the top eight last time out.
Hackney is certainly a good start on that front. For just £25m, he will go down as one of the bargain deals of the summer and could be the start of a trend for Everton.
Reports are now claiming that the Merseyside club have set their sights on Timothy Weah, who is currently representing USA at the 2026 World Cup.

Credibility |
Weah is an interesting option. His transition into an attacking right-back makes him an ideal solution for Everton, who will be without the retired Seamus Coleman next season and forced to rely on centre-back Jake O’Brien unless someone like Weah arrives. |
|
Finances |
Like Hackney, the Toffees could land a bargain deal to sign Weah. The versatile defender is reportedly valued at around £15m at Marseille, handing Everton a major boost. |
|
Insight |
To say that Weah has experience at the top level would be an understatement. The American international has played for PSG, Juventus and now Marseille. As a versatile, experienced option, the Premier League is now calling his name. |
|
Impact |
The knock-on effect of Weah’s potential move is that O’Brien could move back into his preferred centre-back role to form a new-look backline at the Hill Dickinson. |
On paper, the deal is certainly within Everton’s grasp. Whether they match Marseille’s asking price remains to be seen, however.
Everton launch approach to sign Weah
As reported by Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Everton have launched an approach to sign Weah from Marseille and are in active talks with the French club. The American will not be forced out, with the pressure on Everton to push for a move.
Marseille have already gifted the Toffees the green light to make their move however, setting a price-tag worth around £15m.
Weah, in the prime of his career at 26 years old, can play as a winger or as a right-back and even scored at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid last season.
Weah would be an excellent signing for Everton
If Everton want European football, then this is the way to do it. Weah has been there and done it at the top level and is by no means past his best. This is a player who could make the right-back spot his own whilst providing an added attacking boost. At around £15m, it would be yet another bargain deal.
Although Weah is now very much in the prime of his career, he once received incredibly high praise from Brazil and PSG legend Neymar as a young player.
“He has everything to go and be one of the top attacking players in Europe.” – Neymar in 2019
Again, Neymar’s praise shows the American’s versatility. Whilst Moyes needs to solve his right-back problem before anything, Weah could kill two birds with one stone by lighting an attacking spark on Merseyside.
