Current and two-time UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has a message for Dustin Poirier, who has had a rocky few weeks.
Last month, Poirier was arrested on Father’s Day and charged with public drunkenness, as per reports.
Earlier today, while talking about the airport incident to Steven Bartlett, “The Diamond” also opened up about how difficult retirement has been. He confessed that there are some days when he believes he can return and become an undisputed UFC champion, and at other times, he feels retiring was the right decision.
He also opened up about struggling with depression, alcohol, and gambling and how there is “a cloud in his head” that he struggles to get out of.
Sean Strickland sends a message to Dustin Poirier
Earlier today on X, Sean Strickland sent Dustin Poirier a message of support. He reminded the former UFC lightweight that he is financially secure and admired by countless fans. Strickland then added that Poirier is “not allowed to be depressed” and asked “The Diamond” not to be too hard on himself for the airport incident. He wrote:
“Dustin, Im depressed, ‘ bro, what? You’re rich and loved by thousands of people.. You’re not allowed to be depressed… What you did is got kicked off a flight and tried to fight a cop….relax it happens to the best of us #IGBBMN”

In another subsequent X post, “Tarzan” added:
“I just cannot understand depression. There are kids dying of cancer going through chemo. They would give anything for one more day. But you a grown a*s rich man looks in the mirror and says I’m depressed. Tell me why you’re sad rich man? Lmao”

Dustin Poirier, however, isn’t looking for sympathy. Instead, he has a message for everyone who has supported him after the airport incident and his arrest. During the aforementioned sitdown with Steven Bartlett, he added:
“I appreciate everybody, but I’m not looking for sympathy or to make this okay. It’s not okay… I did it. I’m not blaming it on mental health or anything like that, even though I’m focusing on that now. I did that. I decided to drink that day when I wasn’t feeling well. It’s all on me.”
